MMHTP’s focus is on senior care homes, veteran care homes and hospitals, library reading programs, and after school programs on the western slope of Colorado.
Senior Care Homes
In senior centers, mini horses often act as living sparks of joy. Residents light up immediately and spontaneous smiles spread across faces.
Stroking one of our mini horses’ soft mane or even just being near one can reduce feelings of isolation and calm anxiety. For individuals living with dementia, they may remember a farm life or pets they loved.
Veteran’s Homes
At VA homes, veterans coping with trauma or PTSD benefit from the grounding, nonjudgmental presence of these animals.
A mini horse doesn’t demand conversation, doesn’t ask questions — it simply offers calm companionship. Stress levels go down. They can help open up a vet in therapy or want to reconnect the people around them.
Say WHOA to Bullying
This innovative program is the first of its kind. Bullying prevention is taught using animal-assisted activities with our miniature therapy horses.
They can help teach children with learning disabilities, truancy, and behavioral issues. Animal-assisted activities with any kids capture their attention, teach to the moment, and reinforce what they learn.
